On Saturday, September 14, Devin’s mom took him to a walk-in clinic for what they thought was a cold. Devin just wasn’t feeling good. By the end of the day, Devin was at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and had been diagnosed with lymphoma.
Several days later, after a battery of tests, it was determined that Devin had Stage IV Hodgkins Lymphoma. On Friday, September 20, Devin began his first round of chemotherapy.
Devin is a 17 year-old senior at Oakland High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Devin, a varsity member of the baseball team, is a right-handed pitcher for the Patriots.
Devin is determined to “win the game.” And, all of us are committed to walk beside him in this battle. As pitchers know, every batter that comes to the plate is determined to crush the ball. Sometimes, they do. Yet, the good pitchers know that it is important to get the ball back, get back on the bump, and get the next guy out…and win the game.
What Devin is experiencing is but one batter, or one inning in the game of life. We need him to get back on the bump and get out of this inning.
And, we’re here to help him.
